Kicked Out of Hone Health: My Opinion After the First Month of Membership, as a Woman in my Mid Thirties

Updated: Sep 8

Hone Health is a monthly wellness subscription service, with a twist. You can speak to a doctor on staff monthly based on your health goals, after doing a blood screening to evaluate what your body may need in the first month. This blood test evaluates over 40 different areas of your body.

I'll admit, I haven't done my blood work since 2019, so I was worried about the results.

Before we get into my review of my first (and only) month using Hone Health, a quick disclaimer.

Disclaimer: I was contacted by Hone Health's team to try their services for free for three months as part of their Hone Health Ambassador Program. I am not under obligation to post content about this wellness and biohacking service. My opinions are my own. #GiftedbyHoneHealth

While I had three months included, I was only able to stay in the program for one month.

Getting started was only a few steps, over about two weeks:

  1. Setting Up a Hone Health Account

There was a questionnaire in the beginning that asked what concerns you have. If you don't select any concerns, you can't proceed forward. I selected anxiety as a concern, but can't recall what the other options were. However, based on what they sell, the questions were similar to what would lead you to needing those products. It only took a few minutes to answer and get my login set up.

  1. Getting Blood Work Done

The second step was scheduling blood work. In the questionnaire, they said there were two options: having someone at Hone set up the appointment for you, or doing it yourself.

At first, I put in my availability so someone could do it for me, but I didn't hear back for a few days, so then I scheduled it myself. This was frustrating to me, because when I asked about my appointment with their support team, they directed me to the online scheduler, rather than saying why no one had reached out or an expected timeline on when they would.

The blood work was fast, done at a local CVS, and I got the results about three days later. I was able to see my results before the appointment with the doctor.

  1. Setting Up My First Appointment

You cannot set up your appointment until your blood results are available. Once they show up, you can schedule online. There were a lot of different times available that would work for all time zones, so it was easy to pick a virtual appointment at a time that worked for me.

Before I could start my appointment, there was a 20 minute intake form that went over a variety of questions, including about my sex life and energy levels. At the end, I had to verify my ID.

  1. My First (and Only) Virtual Appointment

I loved my doctor. She was kind and knowledgeable, giving me recommendations for supplements and lifestyle changes to add to my routine to help me feel less stress and anxiety.

She did not think I was a fit for the products they sold, and told me where I could get what she recommended to me. She wasn't pushy or salesy, and it seemed like she actually cared about getting me what I needed.

I wrote down what she said, and looked forward to seeing her again in a month to let her know if her recommendations started helping.

Whelp. That did not happen.

Because I wasn't a candidate for the products sold, I got an email a day later saying I wasn't eligible for the subscription and could no longer use their services.

The doctor I spoke to didn't tell me I would be removed and I wish she had. I was under the impression I could continue the membership just to talk to her, even if I didn't use their prescriptions.

I understand their decision, because the use of their prescriptions impacts their profit, but I wish this was more clear to the consumer that this was a possibility.

Would I Recommend Hone Health?

I think there are some areas for improvement in the program's communication:

  1. No one contacted me about my appointment, even though the survey said someone could schedule it for me. That started the membership with frustration.

  2. When I talked to customer support about having trouble downloading my post-appointment report, I had to do multiple replies, and then gave up because I didn't get what I needed. (I spelled the name of one of the supplements wrong and wanted to reference the doctor notes. I had trouble downloading them. Then, the notes didn't mention the supplements, and the support team told me incorrect information over email.)

  3. There is no way to send a message to your doctor directly, it has to go through customer support, which twice didn't answer in the way I would expect for a more premium membership.

  4. I reached out a few times to the person who gifted me the free membership as part of their ambassador program, and didn't hear back after a month. This is likely a different team, but still part of an issue.

  5. I wish my doctor had told me we wouldn't be speaking again before ending the call.

While those are areas to improve, if you are someone that specifically knows you want hormone therapies, this may be a safe way to get that treatment since it's their specialty.

If you were mainly curious on their longevity pitch like me, and were overdue for bloodwork, it may not be helpful.

I'm glad I received good advice and had my bloodwork read by a doctor, but wish I had a different experience overall.

One of the reasons I wished my doctor had been more clear with me is becasue I was curious about their NAD therapies, but our first call focused on my stress (since that was, obviously, more important to me at the time). I intended to ask later about NAD after I tried her advice the first month.

That concludes my short series on Hone Health. If you missed the introduction post, you can catch up and learn about their mission.

I don't know if this referral code will work since I'm not a member anymore, but do try it if you think Hone may be good for you. You may be able to get a free month of membership with code CF9947AB.

Overall, the program has a lot of promise for its convenience and specialties, but since I wasn't their target demograph in the first call, I couldn't continue.
